1. Who We Are

Hooks ("we," "us," or "our") is a music collaboration and rights management platform operated by Vitor Rego. By using the Hooks app or website at writinghooks.app, you agree to this Privacy Policy.

This policy complies with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Brazil's Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD), and other applicable data protection laws.

2. Data We Collect

Information you provide:

• Account details: name, email address, profile photo, professional role, IPI/CAE numbers, and musical credits
• Creative content: song lyrics, compositions, versions, collaboration notes, voice recordings, and ideas
• Royalty data: split percentages, collaborator information, and generated PDF split sheets
• Social interactions: friend requests and in-app notifications
• Payment information: subscription status managed by Apple, Google, or RevenueCat (we never store card numbers)

Information collected automatically:

• Device identifiers and operating system
• App usage data and session analytics
• Crash reports and performance data
• IP address and approximate location

3. How We Use Your Data

• To provide and maintain the Hooks platform and all its features
• To enable real-time collaborative songwriting between users
• To generate split sheets and manage royalty agreements
• To process and manage your subscription through RevenueCat and Apple/Google billing
• To power the Coda AI co-writer feature (conversation history expires after 30 days)
• To send notifications about project activity and platform updates
• To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud or abuse
• To comply with legal obligations

We process your data only when we have a lawful basis — your consent, performance of a contract, a legitimate interest, or a legal obligation.

4. Sharing Your Data

We never sell your personal data. We share data only in these circumstances:

• With collaborators you invite: Users you add to a project will see your name, professional role, and agreed split percentage
• With service providers: Third parties that help us operate Hooks under strict data processing agreements — see Section 8
• For legal compliance: When required by law, court order, or to protect our rights and users' safety
• In a business transfer: If Hooks is acquired or merged, your data may transfer to the new entity under the same privacy protections

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure with encryption at rest and in transit. Voice recordings are access-controlled and visible only to authorized users. We implement Firebase App Check, secure authentication (including Sign in with Apple and Google), and role-based access controls.

No security system is 100% infallible. We encourage you to use a strong password and to notify us immediately at support@writinghooks.app if you suspect any unauthorized access to your account.

6. Data Retention

• Account data: retained while your account is active
• AI conversation history (Coda): automatically deleted after 30 days
• Deleted projects: removed within 30 days of deletion
• Account deletion: all personal data permanently removed within 30 days of account deletion request

You can delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account in the app.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you have the right to:

• Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction: request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
• Deletion: request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
• Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
• Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests
• Restriction: request that we limit processing of your data
• Withdraw consent: at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@writinghooks.app. We will respond within 30 days. EU/EEA residents may also lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.

8. Third-Party Services

Hooks uses the following third-party services that may process your data:

9. Cookies and Tracking

The Hooks web platform may use essential cookies to maintain your session and preferences. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Analytics data is collected in aggregate form and does not identify individual users.

10. Children's Privacy

Hooks is rated 4+ on the App Store and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at support@writinghooks.app and we will delete the account and associated data promptly.

11. International Data Transfers

Hooks operates from the United States. If you access our platform from outside the US — including from the European Union or Brazil — your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States. We ensure such transfers comply with applicable law through standard contractual clauses and equivalent safeguards.

12. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, contact us at support@writinghooks.app.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes via email or an in-app notification at least 14 days before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of Hooks after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
